Starting my Facepainting Business

I officially started my business at the start of November last year. Between Halloween and Christmas I didn’t get much of a break at all. It seems to be the season for face paint and special fx makeup.

But January was quiet.┬áDeadly quiet even… and I have to say I got a little scared. What if my business doesn’t take off? What if I won’t get enough work?

So I used the month of January to start advertising. I updated my ads on Gumtree, I sent out some sales letters, and I’m handing out business cards to nearly everyone I meet. (Is that weird?)

Last weekend I attended the ‘Bride of the Year’ show in the RDS in Dublin. When I got chatting to a lovely lady with 21 (!) grandchildren I decided to give her a few business cards too. Wouldn’t it be amazing if our paths crossed again?!

Now January is coming to a close and inquiries are starting to come in. Pfew..! It looks like its going to be a busy first year after all.

But it isn’t easy… and I have gained such respect for all business owners big or small. It is amazing and so rewarding to do what you love, but it’s hard work too! I’ll definitely try harder to support local business from now on. We’re all in the same boat čÖé
